I just laughed at Kolyada's 4Lz. That was unreal, holy hell...
His jumps are really spectaclur when on. He's not with one of the famous coaches in Russia, right? Who taught him his technique?

2 clean programmes out of 12? Yeah, I'm probably gonna skip the Olympics
I think that required steps rule should be enforced more meticulously than it is now. Too much leeway left for skaters & judges, tech specialist should interfere, give the memo to every judge. There is a rule, but it's treated in a way that is too casual. And I say that as someone who think that tech panel has too much influence on the result in certain realms.because Mikhail had no predeceding steps going into it. So some judges gave him 0 GOE, while other judges didn't care.
At this point i have no clue who will win at the olympics.

Tolstoi said:There was an American judge who did the same at Worlds 2016 after Mirai Nagasu's fs right in your face at the KnC.
Conflicts of interest, but there you have it.
Who was that? I can't imagine an American judge giving Mirai a hug. Instead of hugs, they should give her fair PCS.
We will learn how Kolyada deals with pressure in free skate.
? Was there an American judge at the 2016 Worlds ladies' free skate?

Did you really feel he "half-assed" his program today? While I totally get the criticism that those glaring jump errors should've been reflected in some of the PCS categories more (corridor judging & reputational judging sucks, and yeah, I think Tanaka got wuzrobbed a bit), my impression as a viewer was that Javi really made the effort to perform the spins, the st sq, the "in-betweens" -- i.e. the actual choreography -- to a high standard, showing good musicality & commitment to his choreo throughout. So, I just don't get the accusation of him half-assing his peformance in addition to screwing up those jumps.
Boyang: I still love that Soundtrack and dislike that program. If you ask me, he should return to Spiderman. His Component score can be higher if he would engage more. I believe this is a step backwards for him. I really want to see him at the GPF, and he still has every chance to make it so, good luck.
Keiji was good and I think he's probably the one that should go to the Olympics. Compared to Mura this was so much more convincing, especially if he has an injury. Or why did he withdraw at CoR?
Add my name to the list of fans of Kolyada's WOWs 4Lutz (With Or Without Steps).
I had only a moment to re-watch Mikhail and have to say that I'm so positively surprised that the whole performance was not only about this GLORIOUS 4Lz, despite titles of many videos of his SP.
Yes - the program itself is kind of weird and gives more question marks/raised brows than anwers full of enthusiasm, BUT for me one of Mikhail's biggest strenghts is his performance focus and ability to play with the music and movement; he already has that polish and control of his way of movement that I just admire, adding today's flawless elements (jumps in particular) it makes a stunner. Saying that, I kind of see where they were going from with this Mozart/Tango mesh, the costume and how overall choreography looks like - it seems like an attempt to merge, play on classical and more modern aesthetics, mixing oth clean lines with sharp movement. I hope that this very performance will give Mikhail and his team a hue boost of confidence and courage to make this program even more edgy, quirky and spiced up with Mikhail's personality.
Talking about this 4Lz - I said it at last Worlds, his Lz technique is something else for me: he jumps it with such ease and abandon almost. The spring immediately transforms into rotation and speed, it's truly a gasp-worthy moment when done successfully. I think that should stuck for good in Mikhail's head going forward, this capability that will motivate him to work on its consistecy and the consistency on whole program's execution. I loved also 3A with kind of no big set-up.
Looking at the whole performance, it could be more engaging, 'out-there', dramatic, but all of those qualities can grow with time I think - what mattered for me was the focus and attack radiating from Mikhail, even after ending pose. He needed this kind of strenght of ability to have clean, strong, impactful performance. Despite my non-enthusiastic view of the program itself, he still work it out with so much musicality and detil/finishing of movement (particularly in transitions).
And his reaction in K'n'C along with Valentina - such down-to-earth person, I felt like was genuinely overjoyed with such score, but still wanted to contain himself inside that competition focus. I think that all he needs is peace and health, also kind of understanding, support he seems to have from Valentina - it's so good to see him grow more and progressing with those goals.
Wow, Mikha! I don't remember his name in the discussions about Olympic podium prospects. But if he can skate the free program like this he is surely among the very elite.
I like Javi and always liked. His interpretation of Chaplin is just superb. I doubt that anyone else could do it like he does. But I see the trend of his jumping deterioration. When did he skate 2 back to back clean programs the last time with all the planned jump content? I remember that his Helsinki SP was quite good but then a meltdown. Let's see tomorrow. I hope that he is not past his long-term peak.
Judge 6 (Italy?) was not impressed by Mikhail. He gave him after the skate of his life lower pcs than to Han Yan (Asia) and just a bit higher than to Kevin Reynolds (North America) who had one big meltdown. So much for "European panel conspiracy in favor of the Russians".
Some judges did give Mikhail's 4Lz 0 GOE? Maybe there wasn't enough steps before it or are they watching something else? And please we all know Javier did not do his best today, he should not be getting PCS that high
