Tommy Shelby is such a compelling character. For me, it's because right off the bat everything he does and becomes is connected to his experiences during The Great War. He's sensitive, ultra-sensitive, and that's such an appealing but tragic combination with his hard edge. I can't stand violence, but I'm completely on his side and empathize with him. And he's got a conscience. I really have never seen a series as exquisitely painful and brilliant as this one. Somehow I manage to stay with it.
